Don’t you love the clever hairstyles the gymnasts wear? Check out the clever way Olympic gold medalist
Shawn Johnson’s French braid neatly keeps her hair off her face and is chic at the same time. Celebrity hairstylist Keith Campbell whose celebrity client roster includes
Missy Elliott,
Ashanti,
Tracee Ellis Ross,
Chrisette Michelle and
Keri Hilson has given us the deets on how to re-create these clever and chic Olympic-style ‘dos inspired by
Shawn Johnson,
Jennifer Kessy and more for you to try this summer and beyond!
1. The Olympic Volleyball Player: Jennifer Kessy
Apply
JONATHAN Product Weightless Smooth No-Frizz Hydrating Balm ($24, jonathanproduct.com)
throughout slightly damp hair to tame flyaways. Blow dry hair
completely. Once your hair is dry, pull the hair back to a high pony
tail. Take 3 rubber bands and spread them apart on the pony tail. Use
JONATHAN Product Silky Dirt ($14. jonathanproduct.com)on the separated sections for added texture.
2. The Olympic Gymnast: Nastia Liukin
Thoroughly wash hair with a sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner. I recommend
Jonathan Product hydrating shampoo ($18, johnathanproduct.com) and
hydrating conditioner ($18. jonathanproduct.com). With clean, dry hair, section out the bang portion of your hair and clip it to the side for now. Apply a small amount of
Dirt Texturizing paste by Jonathan Product ($26, jonathanproduct.com)
to your hands. Then start a loose French braid from each side of your
head half way to the crown. Pull both sides/French braids and the
remaining hair from the back of the head into a high pony tail. Unclip
the bang portion of the hair. Loosely pushing it forward first to
create a small pompadour, braid the remaining loose hair and add it to
the already created pony tail. Finish off this look with
Jonathan Product Finish Control hairspray ($22, jonathanproduct.com).

3. The Olympic Gymnast: Shawn Johnson (retired)
With clean, dry hair side, part your hair from the temple to the
crown of the head and section it off from the back of the head with a
clip holding the hair in the back. Apply a small amount of the
Dirt Texturizing paste ($22. jonathanproduct.com)
to the palm of your hands and begin a French braid, starting from the
top of the head and crossing over to the side. Pull the remaining hair
into a high pony tail and add to it the French braid. Finish off with
Jonathan Product Finish Control hairspray ($22, jonathanproduct.com).
4. The Olympic Gymnast: Alicia Sacramone
With clean, dry hair, take 2 inches in diameter sections of hair and
wrap them around a large barrel curling iron. Do this to the whole
head, starting from the nape all the way to the front. Once the whole
head is completed, part it in the middle from the temple to the crown.
Take the front right section and lightly twist it back to the side. Use a
clip or bobby pin to secure it. Repeat the same on the left side.
Spray
Jonathan Product Finish Control hairspray ($22, jonathanproduct.com) throughout to ensure your curls stay intact.
